Asterix the Gaul - exhibition in London from May to September 2018 at the Jewish Museum in Camden

Asterix! Two delightful things for fans of the fearless Gaul and his friends.

1. Musical Instruments of Antiquity as Illustrated in The Adventures of Asterix the Gaul - a professor of acoustics gave a not-entirely-spoof paper on the depictions of the musical instruments of the time, apparently the descriptions of the sounds they made are pretty accurate. He's written a bit more about it on his website http://www.acs.psu.edu/drussell/Asterix-Music.html

2. The Jewish Museum in Camden is, in May, celebrating Asterix in Britain with an exhibition and talks (René Goscinny the writer of the text was Jewish). There's a talk from Oliver Kamm about his mum, Anthea Bell, who did the amazing English translations http://www.jewishmuseum.org.uk/asterix

I worked round the corner (at Diabetes UK) from the Jewish Museum for 8 years and had no idea it was there! It's fantastic and has some nice ceramics too.

Comment policy: I enthusiastically welcome corrections and I entertain polite disagreement ;) Because of the nature of this blog it attracts a LOT - 5 a day at the moment - of spam comments (I write about spam practices, misleading marketing and unevidenced quackery) and so I'm more likely to post a pasted version of your comment, removing any hyperlinks.

Comments written in ALL CAPS LOCK will be deleted and I won't publish any pro-homeopathy comments, that ship has sailed I'm afraid (it's nonsense).
