Stuff that occurs to me

All of my 'how to' posts are tagged here. The most popular posts are about blocking and private accounts on Twitter, also the science communication jobs list. None of the science or medical information I might post to this blog should be taken as medical advice (I'm not medically trained).

Think of this blog as a sort of nursery for my half-baked ideas hence 'stuff that occurs to me'.

Testing the Twitpic widget...

Instructions below, in the comments. The widget can be seen at the bottom of every page on this blog. (I did have the widget here, but then in writing this bit I deleted it, oops).

  1. Hi Jo,

    Interesting stuff.

Can you tell me where you got the code for your twitpic widget? It would be most appreciated.

    Thanks, Thomas.

  2. Hi Thomas

Thanks :) I got the code from Twitpic itself, and pasted it into a generic widget available in Blogger.

Go here to design the look of your widget and collect the relevant code
    http://twitpic.com/widgets/designer

It's just html, so pasting it into a new blog post and publishing means it will 'run' as the widget when the page loads and that's how I did it first.

To insert it properly into the blog background (so that it will appear on every page, rather than in just one post) you'd need to find a generic widget on Blogger, or your blog hoster, and paste in the code there.

My instructions are for Blogger obviously - choose Design > Add a Gadget > In the Basics tab it's the fourth one, called HTML/JavaScript "Add third-party functionality or other code to your blog" - paste in your code text - do not give it a title, leave that bit blank, press OK and save and it should be on screen.

    Hope it works,
    Jo

Comment policy: I enthusiastically welcome corrections and I entertain polite disagreement ;) Because of the nature of this blog it attracts a LOT - 5 a day at the moment - of spam comments (I write about spam practices, misleading marketing and unevidenced quackery) and so I'm more likely to post a pasted version of your comment, removing any hyperlinks.

Comments written in ALL CAPS LOCK will be deleted and I won't publish any pro-homeopathy comments, that ship has sailed I'm afraid (it's nonsense).
